Welcome to Bonobon. Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using our app. These Terms govern your access to and use of Bonobon, an AI-powered language learning mobile application operated by:

By downloading or using Bonobon, you agree to these Terms.

1. Who We Are

Bonobon is a mobile AI-assisted language learning application that enables users to read content in their target language, look up words instantly, practice writing, engage in conversation, and build vocabulary across 100+ languages.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Bonobon. Users between 13 and 18 must have parental or guardian consent.

By using the app, you confirm that:

  • You have the legal capacity to enter into binding agreements (or have obtained parental consent).
  • You are not prohibited from using the service under applicable law.

3. No Account Required

Bonobon does not require you to create an account. All your data — saved words, learning progress, and language settings — is stored locally on your device and never transmitted to our servers.

4. Use of the Service

You may use Bonobon only for lawful personal, non-commercial purposes. You agree not to:

  • Violate any applicable law or regulation.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the app or its underlying systems.
  • Use the service for spam, scraping, or automated abuse.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the app.

5. AI Functionality

Bonobon uses artificial intelligence technology provided by OpenAI to generate reading content, provide word translations, facilitate chat-based practice, and support writing exercises. Your text prompts and inputs are sent to OpenAI's API solely to generate responses within the app.

AI-generated outputs:

  • Are based on probabilistic language models.
  • May contain inaccuracies or errors.
  • Should not be treated as authoritative reference material.

Bonobon does not guarantee the accuracy of translations or language learning outcomes.

6. Content and Intellectual Property

Bonobon and its content (including the app design, UI elements, and original copy) are owned by Stanislav Leontev and protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

Content you enter into the app (e.g., custom topics, writing exercises) remains your own. It is processed on-device and via OpenAI solely for the purpose of delivering the service, and is not stored on our servers.

7. In-App Purchases and Subscriptions

Bonobon may offer free and paid features. If paid plans are available:

  • Pricing will be clearly displayed before purchase.
  • Subscriptions may renew automatically unless canceled before the renewal date.
  • Refunds are subject to the policies of the App Store (Apple) or Google Play Store.
  • You may cancel your subscription at any time through your device's subscription settings.

8. Termination

We may withdraw the app or restrict access if these Terms are violated or applicable laws require it. Since no account is held on our servers, there is no account to delete — clearing the app or uninstalling it removes all locally stored data.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

Bonobon is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not guarantee:

  • Continuous, uninterrupted availability.
  • Error-free operation.
  • Specific language learning outcomes or results.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by law, Bonobon and Stanislav Leontev shall not be liable for:

  • Indirect or consequential damages.
  • Loss of locally stored data (e.g., due to device reset or app uninstall).
  • Inaccuracies in AI-generated content.

Liability under German law remains unaffected where mandatory.

11. Changes to the Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Users will be notified via an in-app notice. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Germany. Jurisdiction: Berlin, Germany, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence apply.
